HOWTO: Working with Guitar Tabs and Adding Artists

12StringBlues is a collaborative music site. Besides discussing in the forums, as a registered user you are able to directly edit our guitar tabs if they are entirely incorrect or simply add your comments below the tab to discuss different options. This document explains how.

  • IMPORTANT:
Due to the collaborative nature of this sytem, any abuse of this system will lead to the immediate and permanent removal of your account - period. This includes, spamming tab sections, using abusive language in the forums, etc....
  • How Do I Get A New Artist Section Added?
If you have some tabs for a genre related artist and would like to see a section built for them, you should contact us with the name of the artist. As our site is limited in scope we may choose to not add them, so please do not take offense.
  • How Do I Add A Tab That Is Currently Not Available?
You can add tabs by logging in, and then clicking on the "Create Content" link on the sidebar. Choose "Tabulature" and off you go. Please follow the instructions at the top of the submission page regarding formatting.
  • How Do I Edit A Tab That I Feel Is Inaccurate?
If you feel a tab is entirely inaccurate and you have one that is better you have two options - one would be to edit the tab directly removing the old tab and adding yours, the other would be to simply add your tab in a comments field - this is entirely up to you. To edit the existing tab simply click on the "edit" tab and within the "body" section replace the existing tab between the "pre" tags with your tab, then submit.
  • Note: When Adding Tabulature Notation Consider Using The Pre Tags For Formatting
If you are entering text and you want the page to be displayed exactly as you have input it, surround your text with the "pre" tags. <pre>...</pre>
  • How Do I Comment On An Existing Tab?
If you would like to discuss a particular tab, just login/register if you haven't already and below the tab click "add new comment".
  • I Have To Scroll Right To View The Tab, How Do I Stop This?
The tabs are generally put into the system as pre formatted text, thus long lines will not break and may cause you to have to scroll right. When using the "pre" tags, the tabs often have to be edited to ensure the formatting is correct, or try removing the "pre" tags and see if it looks ok.

If you have any other questions about how to use our site, please ask.
